I have been on honor roll for four years straight, thanks to Sylvan.
When I was younger I always had trouble learning. My classmates would answer each question easily and I would be left behind confused. I was always embarrassed because if I needed help the teachers would have to teach me in front of the entire class. They would have to stop what they were doing and try to help me while everyone stared at me. It was very uncomfortable. I ignored it until I moved on to middle school. Middle school was some of my toughest years and I was terrified of my math teacher. She would yell at me in front of everyone because I never understood her lessons. She even yelled at me when I knew the answer! One day after school she asked me what the answer was and I took a pause to find where I wrote it down on my paper. Instead of simply waiting for me to answer she sighed loudly and rolled her eyes yelling at me saying that I didn’t know it. She then went on and asked someone else the same question and what do you know … I had it right! She never believed in me or gave any effort to help me. I was never a bad student, I would try my best, pay attention and ask for help. When my parents received my report card they became worried and knew I needed more help. The first thing that they did was meet with my teacher in hopes that she would give tips or more help. She didn’t, in fact she tried to tell my parents I had ADD or ADHD but I never showed any symptoms because I never even had it.
After the meeting, middle school became harder; I was bullied and was failing in several classes. My mother considered home schooling me, but we later ruled that out. Instead I enrolled in Sylvan. I was promised nice teachers and lots of help. On my first day I was really nervous, after all I did have bad experience with teachers, but I was welcomed the moment I walked through the door. Not only were the teachers extremely kind, but my “classmates” were too! I made plenty of friends while I was there and it made me feel less alone. After all we were all there for the same reasons. Learning was something I once hated, but now enjoyed.
School became a breeze! When Sylvan was over for me, I began to realize how much it really affected me, but I have never thought that it wouldn’t just help with my education. Sylvan helped me get into National American Miss because of my honor roll! I have been on honor roll for four years straight, thanks to Sylvan.
I am so thankful for Sylvan and all who have helped me there. I am also extremely thankful that they believed in me. I had the honor of a scheduled meeting to talk about the pageant, and later a check helping me to pay for the pageant so that I could take part in it. This check served two purposes: one to help with the payment and second to prove that someone else believed in me. When I entered the pageant I knew my family would support me. That meant a lot to me that they did, but it meant even more to me that an outside source did as well. I don’t think that I will be able to show how appreciative I am of Sylvan. It helped me in so many ways. Sylvan helped me in confidence, sociality, and education. I will be able to carry those skills on for the rest of my life. I hope that Sylvan will continue to help people of all ages and continue to prove that they are not just going to tutor their students, but they are going to enlighten their students and help them move on not only to a better education, but to a better life.
Thank you for everything and all that you have done for me. I will be forever grateful. I can honestly say that Sylvan was one of the best things that I have been through and will be with me forever. Since my experience with Sylvan went so well I have and will highly recommend Sylvan to those in need of help.
Thank you again for helping me succeed when others did not.
