It is officially my favorite time of the year! From the cool, crisp air to the splendor of changing leaves, fall offers many reasons and opportunities to enjoy time with those you love. Here are just a few ideas for you to consider:
- Visit an orchard. Nothing makes you think fall more than fresh, delicious apples and frosty, orange pumpkins. Local orchards provide a beautiful backdrop for a family outing. Many orchards allow you to pick your own fruits and vegetables. In addition, several even provide farmers’ markets, classes, hayrides, and other activities to keep you and your children busy and entertained for hours.
- Enjoy fall festivals and fairs. It seems that every week we hear about another festival or fair that is popping up across the area. These events often provide diverse entertainment and fun for all ages. From handmade items to rides to scrumptious food, fairs and festivals have something for everyone!
- Create autumn artwork. Begin your craft time with a nature walk where kids can collect things like twigs, leaves, and acorns. These can be combined with other items or drawings to create beautiful nature scenes. Kids can also simply arrange the items on paper to create their own fall collages. If you add some paint to the mix, the leaves, acorns (and acorn tops), and twigs can be used as stamps to make fall prints as well. Obviously, these are just a few simple ideas. When your kids’ imaginations combine with the wonders of nature in the fall, the possibilities are endless.
As your family gets back into the hectic routine of school, sports and other extra-curricular activities, make sure to take some time this year to enjoy the wonder of fall. Whether you decide on one of the ideas above or begin (or continue) a tradition all your own, maybe…just maybe….you will find that fall becomes your favorite time of year too.
